Look for electrical installation courses at your local college they usually take about 3 years to complete.

Who's said you're not competent. NOT ME.

edf a large company? no edf are cowboys and subcontract all there work out to g4s utility who are even bigger cowboys if the olympics is anything to go off. On a more serious note i can understand why you would worry about some people working with live electrics as some of the larger companys are training up meter readers to install electric meters and i have witnessed some of there handy work when i have had to attend call outs for cross polaritys and exposed copper and yes i agree the training is diabolical but thankfully i was all ready familiar with electrics as i was a engineers within the lift industry for 10 yrs before i moved to metering so i knew a little already.

look i think i may have getting off on the wrong foot with 1 or 2 of you just to end all the ****e sorry if you feel i have offended you.

to reply to a question put by shocking_eg you are correct we ho change your meters are indeed not qualified electricians and infact i started out with british gas and i as flabagasted at the training they provided to new recruits on how to change electric meters 2 WEEKS TRAINING that is all now as i explained i had prevouis knowledge of electrics little i awknowledge but never the less i shared a room for six months with a guy who was a waiter all of his life and is now a trained 3 phase meter engineer. i have raised concerns about this training method and in my daily job i audit engneers and see just how shocking some are.

You haven't offended me, or I'm guessing anyone else. All we want is a decent install that will be safe for anyone using it.

I'm all for teaching people (I push for my company to take on apprentices every year)

What I don't want, and the same with many others is people without the knowledge of how to do things properly attempting to install things without proper supervision whilst learning.

He's after learning electrical theory and installation, not a foreign language.

Davey194 - Buy and read The Part P Doctor book by Alan Lynch. It's on the Elecsa website. Ignore the 'part three bit' that's misleading - it's just the third edition.

That will give you a good head start.Read and read again. Very well written for the beginner who wants to take it seriously.

It’s very interesting that we have the Lofty removed today and now we have Davey registering today, maybe coincidence, but not sure, judging by some posts, it seems that he already had a bad experience on this site, where you couldn’t get that feeling in the first day………never mind ……just wonder…
