Advice wanted on the best Solar IBoost to buy please.
That is one that actually cuts out when the power from the roof falls below a specified Wattage and is cheap ;)

I am an old school Leccy having done 24 years in the Royal Navy as an electrical/electronic engineer (Control Electrical Mechanic) maintaining and repairing submarine sonar sets.
When I left I went to Highbury Tech in Portsmouth and did my C&Gs to the 16th edition of the IEEE edition of the...
OK so I reckon storage heaters are old hat. But whats the best replacement?
Haverland and a couple of others do gel filled heaters. Comments from the professionals please. 'Er indoors wants something that heats up on economy 7 and dissipates heat on demand (like the old Dimplex brick jobby) ...
OK we are told RCBOs are the way to go.
Agreed.
Because this will do away with using a RCD but, and I guess this has been questioned and possibly answered before, why buy an RCBO that only protects phase side (single pole RCBO) of the cct?
Have I missed something?
Do we put in one RCD!?
Fred
Any one know where one could get double pole RCBOs at a reasonable price...please.
I now there have been some opinions about SP RCBOs and there usage so whats the general concensus?
Fred
All electric system, no gas in village presently hot water supplied by an aging oil fired Rayburn. About to install solar panels and electric heating. What storage heaters do the panel recommend. What are Stiebel Eltron like? What about RC wave any advice appreciated. Have Dimplex in the...

Question as a person who is of the older variety I trained to be a 'leccy' on leaving the RN a few years ago and acquired C&G 2361 and 2362 ie to the 16th edition of the regs. I would like to know if its possible to get the required certification to test my own work. If yes...
Will a RCD trip if there is a problem on the cable drawing no current ?
I plug in a tumbler drier and power it up, the RCD trips
Remove the drier plug and try the drier in another socket. The drier works without tripping the RCD.
I try my electric drill in the socket that tripped the RCD...
From earth point in the consumer unit to the kitchen/bathroom taps and the gas pipe to the cooker what size should the cable be?
Will 10mm suffice or is that a bit big?
Whats the general consensus with regard to fitting back boxes to dab and dob walls.
Is there anything anywhere that says you can (or cannot) fit a plastic plasterboard back box to a dab and dob wall?
I hate metal back boxes!!!
What is it and what does it involve getting one.
I am a qualified leccy to the 16th edition of the regs.
For the last ten years I have been living in France as a card carrying leccy.
I am in the throes of having an extension built on to our bungalow and will be doing the electrics myself.
We...
Can some one explain how the energy that isn't used by the house gets on to the grid?
The Output from the inverter is fed to the output side of the properties meter ie the input side of the consumer unit so.............
How does the excess energy make its way pass the meter onto the grid...
I joined the Navy many years ago and completed several years electrical and electronic courses.
I left the Navy in the 80s with the intention of starting my own electrical business. I did the requisit course at Highbury Tech college in Ports mouth and came away with C&G in electrical...
Having just had 17 panels installed and producing up to 3.4 kW we would like a power meter to enable us to monitor output from the inverter/converter without going into the loft to read the O/P from the inverter front panel.
Can someone point us to somewhere that sells these please.
Thanks Fred
