Hi, I've changed a consumer unit for a customer but noticed the earth and bonding conductors were undersized at 6mm csa. Do I put this down as a departure from 7671 or not issue to cert until the problem is rectified?
Thanks

Hello all,
I am told that this is no longer permissible under the 17th edition or one of its amendments. This argument seems to have been going on for some time now.
I have the red book but not the amended editions and have not found a specific regulation relating to it there. Of course, I...
Hi - how does everyone get on crimping these compacted conductors. they are way smaller diameter than standard
equivalent size. Icould get a 25mmlugonto a 35mm conductor. whats best practise?
Hi guys, I have come across two problems today well acutely three so I will list them first..

Testing a 4mm radial circuit today or so I thought! I asked the young lad to go to the end of line and take an r1+r2 reading. When he opened up the last point he said that there were four 2.5...
So how do you guys determine the size of existing tails and sub main conductors when carrying out EICR or surveys.
The reason I ask is, today I have been looking through some EICR and the conductor size stated of some of tails and sub mains is different to what I thought just by having a quick...
I'm doing an continuity test on a lighting circuit and I'm getting funny readings I'm putting on test lead on earth and one on switch live then I'm getting a reading of around 1.4 ohms but then when I'm checking the polarity it's shooting up to around 93 ohms but not breaking the circuit as you...
Hi guys I done a quick search but could not find a answer, earthing system in question is TN-S. Supply cable comes in is terminated into two 1361 cut outs and then one set tails then go through to next door into another 1361. Am I wrong in believing that in order to test ze properly the next...
What reasons can anyone think of why a circuit would have a dead short across all 3 conductors ?
so far I'm thinking
- water damage
- possible rodent / pest damage
any more ?
Hi all.
Could someone with better understanding help clear this up for me please;
In the Regs (544) there appears to be no value of resistance for the above and also states that if copper, need not exceed csa of 25mm2.
In GN3 it talks about using a value of 0.05 ohms for verification of bonding...
Can somebody help im going to take my 2394 in February and as far as filling out certificates and sequence of tests im not too bad, but as im still a student and still learning im just a little unsure on a few tests and why there within a certain sequence.
So why do you check continuity of...
Can anybody give the reg number that states that any conductor not connected whether in a multi core cable or single in a containment system should be connected to earth.
I may be wrong but as far as I am aware this is good practice and there is no reg stating it should be done.
Looking...
Hi guys
Just a bored sparks with very little on this evening.
Might be a boring or repeated thread if so I apologise in advance.
If anyone was to ask you what is your best trick of the trade what would it be?
Simple, complicated, down right odd, anything that gets you out of a hole or just a...
Hello all, doing rewire at the moment and i have pit underfloor heating on dedicated ring to save cable. No reason why not right? Conductors in parallel and all that. Not using fcu's just using stat as DP isolator. 7 zones/stats. Design current ok with Ref method B. Am I doing the right...

Been asked to install an extractor in bathroom. Installing 30mA rcd spur outside covering all lighting and ext fan. Obviously notify building control and installation cert. what's people's opinions of listing as a departure from bs7671 on installation cert. obviously recommend upgrade to 16mm...
Hi all, a friend of mine asked me to have a quick look at her electrics as she had been told by the gas engineer that there was no evidence of protective bonding at the gas meter.
I looked in the cupboard to find a met with only two cables attached, one green/yellow and one just green, the...
Hi all, l recently did a eicr on a fish and chip shop.
3 phases (only one phase in use by chip shop). Earth conductor is welded together to each phase by TN-S earthing system means.
When it came to the IR test, l tested the norm tests, L-E, L-N & N-E.
Bearing in mind that we are now supposed...

Hi.
I visited a clients bungalow today as I am looking for some work to get registered by elecsa.
The client wanted some new sockets fitted and after a quick check I noticed that he has no RCD protection for his ring main or his lighting. I then examined the wiring to find that it is the old...
I've been looking over the table in GN3 for the resistance of copper conductors per meter and there is something causing a form of OCD to manifest in me 'ead.
It's obvious that if you double the length of a conductor it will double in resistance and if you halve it, it will halve in...
Just a thought to put it out there. Why not make the coulours that ID our conductors more simple and standard. Way back when I did my appieyship in early to mid 70,s be as it may abroad. Apart from the earth [Green and yellow] then we only had 1 colour as standard and to ID and the was neutral...
