I follow a few plumbers on youtube throughout their daily job tasks etc etc, just watched a video and the bloke claimed you had to be gas safe to remove a boiler cover.
I never knew this and i have connected and carried out PCB fault finding on a fair few, i must be a rule breaker.
Hi guys
Ive just installed a new kitchen, connected the 3 year old range cooker back in with a new cooker connection unit as the old one broke by overtightning screws .
Once I connected the 2 gang cooker switch and earthed it to the metal back box and checked all cables were tight enough, and...
Is this an "energy certificate" which needs to be filled in by a gas engineer and sent to a council after boiler replacement is completed?
If so, where should i put the sticker which was originally on the boiler?
Besides finding a slug in my bathroom this morning- via the hole in the wall for the bonding.. should this earth bonding wire connecting my gas box be boxed in or is it ok outside as it is? Many thanks
I know this is a subject that has come up a million time in the past but hear goes.
I have a customer that has a socket above her gas hob just off to one side but it's like 500mm above work top and I'm not overly sure what to do with it.
I know everyone talks about 300mm from sinks and hob but...
I have a British Gas installed Worcester 28i boiler with a UT1 programmer and ES1 Thermostat and trying to replace the UT1 and ES1 with Hive.
ES1
The wiring for the ES1 is 4 wires Brown, Blue, Black and Green/Yellow. the black and yellow/green wires have red sleeves near the end. (All 4 wires...
I am working on a study for my brother-in-law who runs a national outdoor catering business. At the moment he uses 3.4kVA petrol generators with Honda engines modified to run on LPG. The maximum steady state load is about 900W but they are sized at 3.4kVA to start in sequence and then run...
hi all,
I have my am2 coming up. Just going over a few things. I am correct in saying that the Gas bonding would terminate in to the clamp below the joint, and not above it?
Also, I was going to use one continuous length of 10mm is this allowed, or is it better practice to use to lengths?
Regards
I have a customer who has just failed his gas safety check as he has no bonding to gas, job is straight forward enough. Just wondering what paperwork would be needed for this? If any?
Thinking of replacing electric fire with gas one, electric ok but noisy, one of these fancy fan heaters. Last gas fire was always going wrong, so was wondering if any one could recommend one that is reliable, or more to the point, which ones aren't reliable! Not after anything fancy, but Valor...
Doing some bits for an old boy and checked the bonding, the gas bond does not go back to the DB or MET, but is staked right next to the main earth rod.
I suppose it will effectively put the pipework in the same equipotential zone as the main earth, but just why make your life harder?
Firstly I don't know if I'm allowed here as I am not an electrician
I have a question though....
Just had british gas out here to service my boiler
He refused to carry out service because voltage stick glowed when he touched the casing on speaking with another gas engineer he tells me that as...
Still learning after 64 years on the tools....... Self employed
47 years. Used to have the monopoly for Whitbread Pubs
within 50 mile radius of Nottingham.......
I've always said the more electrical complexity there is built into the modern boilers the more they will go wrong but it
does not...
Hi guys need some advise please carrying out a eicr in a commercial propety which has two buildings next to each other but not joined each have own pme supply coming in so treating each separately. One of the buildings has two meters 1 for basement area with communal areas and 6flats the top...
My house has a PME earth system. The gas pipe in the garage has a 6mm earth wire already but I've been told this should be changed to 10mm.I'm having an EV charging point fitted externally which required an earth rod to be installed (32ohms impedance measured)-PME cannot be used with an external...
Not had any experience with any Smart Meters, s the BBC Watchdog program concerned me a little. actually a lot. Lots of fires caused by loose electrical and Gas connections, has anyone have any idea of the "extensive training" they apparently take a 12 month course and receive, on completion...
I received an email today telling me about this 'scheme' from British Gas called local heroes, basically they advertise and customers ring up or contact them to get jobs done. The advantage is you are making use of the British Gas brand ( i know some of there service is down right poor mind)...
Up in chesterfield, at one of the NICEIC training centers, enjoying it, been soldering 22mm copper pipes, something new to learn they say change is as good as a rest.

Hi Guys: Had a call from an old customer, he's bought a flat to rent out & had a Gas fitter in to do safety checks & issue a Landlords certificate. Gas fitter did whatever checks he had to but won't issue the cert as there's apparently no Earth bond to the gas intake.
The customer was then told...
