Just a wee take on wiring power circuits and alarm circuits in a garage

I thought I would take a few minutes to give my recent experience in wiring a large garage for power and an alarm circuit. This relates to clipped direct for all cables, using Linian clips. A laser round the garage, drilling the 6mm holes. clipping the 2.5mm to the brickwork all went very well...

    UK power production graphics

I happened on this web site today that shows the UK power production & demand: https://grid.iamkate.com/ The obvious elephant in the room is today just over half of the power is from gas. What is missing to me is an indication of percentage capacity, i.e. how much of each source is being used...

    Can a 220 circuit power a 110 outlet?

Is it ok to run a 110 line off a 220 circuit? Specifically, I want to add a 110 outlet near my hot water heater and it would be convenient if I could use one of the hot wires along with the neutral and ground to create the circuit I should also mention that the 110 line will almost always be in...

Can I tighten neutral circuit breaker wires without turning off power?

I have some lights flickering in the house. I was told tightening the circuit breaker wires in the electrical boxes might help eliminate the flickering. Is it possible to tighten the wires without having to turn off power to the house. Thanks

Solar wired into CU breaker, why should it use the solar power & not pull from the grid?

Hi, Really just for info. not a problem or anything. (to be honest also wanting to be sure it is taking from solar as much as possible & can you be sure of that?) I assume the new solar meter is actually what is being drawn from the array so is an accurate indications of that. Grid tied 4kw...

What power supply for this large 12V Fridge/chiller?

My customer wants to fit a large 12V chiller at her farm. The supplier has said it is 12V and 80A. A couple of questions.. 1. What sort of power supply unit would you use for this? See link below of the ebay item. 2. Is this going to be 80A at 12V or 80A at 230V? At 12v it would only be...

    Extending the garden power ring

Hi We just moved into this house and in the utility room there is a normal wall socket with a plug going up ontop of a wall unit and into a very old junction box where it changes to a weather shielded cable & out the wall, along the side of a fence and into a doublesocket weathproof box, as per...

    Marquee power help please!

Hi there, I’ve hired a marquee for an event next month but am a bit lost on how to power it. There are 2 sockets 50 metres from the marquee and 2 sockets 80 metres from the marquee. We also have a 10kva generator, which provides over 7kva of continuous power and has 7 sockets. We need to power...

Wiring help for multiple lights and one power source.

I've been having issues with my dining room lights flickering and light switches working intermittently. After taking off the switch covers, I didn't need to be an electrician to see stuff was wrong. There were exposed wires, red wires attached to black wires, black to white, and so on. I've...

12v power supply units for cameras

12v 5A power supply for four cameras, if using shotgun cable with the power cores being 0.15mm, what is max distance from the cameras the power supply can be, as these are normally mounted close to camera itself. I know I can power locally to camera but would prefer to keep it all together. Any...

    UK Fused Spur To Workshop

I plan on using a fused spur to route power to a workshop using 10mm2 SWA off a regular 13Amp ring main socket. The workshop will have its own dedicated CU fitted. My question is, what size fused spur switch should I be using? Is a 13A sufficient?
