Hi all,
This has got me stumped as it's the first time in 8 years this has happened.
I undertook a 250v test on a brand new recently purchased Surge Protection extension lead - all is well but on each of the 6 sockets it failed the Polarity Test.
Tested the IEC Lead and all was fine so not that...
I'm about to rewire an empty house, with no electronic equipment or anything else plugged in or installed. Does this mean I can omit installing an SPD because the value of the equipment that could be damaged is less than the price of installing the device?

The original screen protection stickers that stop the screen from getting scratched on my multimeter and insulation tester were starting to fall off. As an experiment I bought a packet of cheap mobile phone screen protectors, cut them to size and fitted them to the meters. That was a few months...
Hi There
Trying to rectify a solar installation also containing a double socket in a horticultural location.
Current setup does not have any RCD protection.
Solar setup: 3 phase TNC-S supply - 3 x Solarlake 17000TL inverters - 50kW installation
The problem I am having is selecting the...
Have been to a farm today that has a 100mA time delayed RCD main switch covering a DB that has MCB’s on majority of circuits ( less than 32A) and 30mA RCBO’s on sockets, lighting etc.
What I was thinking was does this comply with regs as circuits less than 32A should disconnect in less than...
Afternoon all,
Quick fire question. Can a RCD fused spur still be used for additional protection under the 18th.
I haven’t got my BBB with me and I recall it giving BSEN numbers for devices used for additional protection and RCD spurs not being one.
Job with extra lights and changing board...
Hi guys
I'm installing a CU in a new build and have a couple of questions I need some guidance with regards to the meter tails.
I need to drill a hole through the wall (for the meter tails) to access the main supplies which are located in the recessed box on the outside of the property. I am...
hi all
conducting eicrs in amusement arcades usually nothing is RCD protected.
sockets no RCD protection in general is c3 but when would this become c2 in this instance as it is an existing installation decades old
Hi everyone,
Consider we have an RCD+MCB protection for a circuit.
if we follow the tables for Zs values of a 10A, MCB, type C, the maximum value shall be 1.75 Ohm, this happens when 100A current flows ( as per MCB breaking curve). When the RCD disconnects the circuit in much less current, why...
Hi,
I want to bring 2 x 20A (@120V) to a chicken coop. It will be powered from my garage panel which will require 140' of cable. 85' in the garage along 2 walls, and 55' buried between the garage and the coop. I used a few voltage drop calculators and it looks like I will need a 6/3 to stay...
Hello friends, is there such a thing as a "smart meter" that I can install on my backwoods house that will trip if it detects a loose/open neutral? If so, where can I get one? Thanks very much
Hello,
I need to install a type 1+2 SPD into the main panel of a small business building, which needs lightning protection.
The main breaker in the main panel is a 4 poles 40A MCB.
I was looking for a SPD and I found this: Schneider A9L16634.
In the technical specification sheet it says...
Hi,
School premisses officer here, wanting some advice.
Each year we have to have a fixed wiring test on the 6 circuits 3 lighting, 3 power on our swimming pool area. Fed from a 3 phase board.
I follow the regs a bit and have a keen interest
Due to budgeting I wanted to know if when we get...

Hi everyone,
would be great if you can share your experience on type of protection devices recommended on UPS system feeder/upstream? as you know, in some type of critical installations such as hospitals, bank servers,..etc, the client does not want to see UPS loads gets cuts off in no...
Good afternoon all. So question for you; if you were doing some minor works on property and noticed lighting circuits are not on RCD protection would you advise the customer? I looked at a small job and mentioned changing mcbs for rcbos. I know there’s people who would just do the work and go...
Morning all,
Quoting for a garage supply and I’m needing too add an additional 1 way board too supply it. Due to space in existing board.
Is surge protection required for such a job if I don’t undertake the risk assessment? Or only required for board change and rewires?
Thanks in advance
I have a problem with lighting protection in a charity in Zambia. The earthing is TT, i.e. earth pits or rods are provided for almost every building. I have measured the resistance of these and some are half to one ohm. But others are 100 ohm which is is dreadful and we are redigging these...
