Morning chaps,
Had a query come in about the different ways VO4Home & Vphase work. VO4home works on reducing the voltage by a set amount at installation whereas vPhase reduces whatever comes in to 220V.
vPhase's website says "There is an (additional) risk with set reduction commercial...
I recorded a Ze on a TN-S supply as 4.2ohms. Consumer unit is an all insulation Wylex twin RCD unit.
I spoke to the landlord of the property which was currently empty (now occupied) and told him he needs to contact the DNO with regards to the high Ze.
They came to site and this was the result...
Need to provide a 3 phase supply from an MCCB board to a changeover panel. The MCCB board and changeover panel are side by side connected by 3 x 50mm brass bushes. The brass bushes have around 13inches (In old money) vertical between them.
Now we can only get 2 wires through each hole (120mm...
I have been asked to install some fluorescent lights in the following custom built enclosures. The 2 images on the left show the potential enclosures, the image on the right shows the cave they will be installed in.
The enclosures are to be made from 18mm ply. with a 6mm acrylic cover over the...
Does anyone know the best solution on how to dim 4 x 7w dimmable downlights? Ive been looking at low load dimmers but they look pretty rubbish amongst the flat plate ive installed in the rest of the house. I'm hearing things about load resistors and would like some info on these if anyone has...

Hi all
I need to run some cabling for an external socket in a garden. The cabling will be run around the walls and will not be buried.
The cable will need to pass throught an 18" solid wall and there will be a number of turns before the final destincation.
What do you think is the best...
I wondered if I could ask for some advice - I have a ceiling lamp fitting comprising 4 gu10 type 35w halogen spotlights. Some time ago I swopped the bulbs for LED versions which worked fine, but I decided to put the originals back for the darker mornings. When I took the led bulbs out, I...

Hi all,
I've come across a competitive quote that includes Solar Edge products - Solar Inverters, Power Optimizers and PV Monitoring | SolarEdge and it all seems very good. Serious improvements and features are claimed, overcoming many 'inherent problems' caused by adjacent roofs not pointing...
Dear all,
I've been quoting several jobs on Solarcentury soalr slates, but I have a problem...with this product I need to leave quite a lot of space around the PV, and in some cases I just really wish I could find an alternative solution...any hints?
Do you know of any other solar slates which...
So, I'd like to quote for a couple of IN Roof systems based around Sanyo HIT panels, however, it appears that neither of our 'usual' mounting system suppliers, Schletter and Schuco, have a solution which will work with these panels; I'm told the Sanyo panel is too thin to work with the Schuco...
As per title, has anyone managed to get everything they need (excluding materials) into some sort of clever storage solution?
I have just ordered one of these:
To add to my growing collection of storage bins, carriers etc. I currently have 2 Veto Pro pac bags in the van, 1 Facom tote, 4...
Took a little plaster off whilst taking some trimming down. More trunking will cover the majority of the gap. But anyone got a suggestion for filling the rest? Skim or fill?
We've just been to look at a large warehouse job (possibly 40-50kW)that we're very keen on winning. Unfortunately, the roof is made up of corrugated cement sheets and we haven't had to tackle this kind of thing before. We were thinking along the lines of using hangar bolts but weren't sure if...
I'm looking to setup a lighting DB in the following way.
I want to have two switch controlled contacters controlling 13 MCB fed lighting circuits each.
I also want an emergency test contactor to be incorporated into the board.
This will control the feed to all the circuits.
I'm sure I...
Hi Guys
Done a small job for a local heating engineer this morning just a simple FCU to the ring to supply the combi.
Potential problem is this:
The house suffered a powersurge last year and all credit on the meters was lost, the homeowner called out an electrician who also noticed the house...

here is my solution... and a definitive one too :)
cable is 80m @ 1.87 mΩ....
Resistance of line conductor= (80 x 1.87) / 1000 =0.15 Ω
Load is 45A. Expressed as a resistance 230/45 = 5.1 Ω
Resistance of Neutral conductor= (80 x 1.87) / 1000 =0.15 Ω
Total circuit resistance of 5.4 Ω...
The local housing company I do a lot of work for has asked me to put 2 sockets in a bedroom (currently without any!) in one of their houses (surface trunking). After a quick look at the site the solution seemed to be to drill through the wall behind a hallway socket, and use an RCD fused...

Evening fellas,
I'm after an elegant solution to an ugly problem:
It's a rewire,
Customer wants CU shifted to somewhere more convenient ( under the stairs, moved from living room wall!)
This location is about 10m worth of cable away from the meter. (6m as the crow flies about but once...
(What else would I do with my Sunday afternoon....)
Most of you will already have read this in this month's Switched On mag from the Electricity Safety Council, but for those who haven't, this is how the discussions between suppliers' and contractors' representatives are going...
