Knowing me and my cousin, the 1 pint was likely a very conservative estimate for the end of the run, so no doubt we'll meet the expected requirements!

A quick update. I'm back on track with the running and knees are feeling fine now, so it seems the change of footwear helped. I've got my distance back up to 7k, and will be aiming to raise it again once I get back from my 2nd week at the training centre next week. In the meantime, my cousin has earned herself a sprained ankle running, so is currently out of action until the swelling has gone down etc.

To try and raise extra money for the charity I'm now also organising an Elvis night on the anniversary of Mums passing in june. So if any of you guys know of an Elvis artist in the north west who would be willing to reduce the fee for charity let me know!!

That's good to hear. Now that your physical training is going well, don't let your drinking training slip.

I'm off to Featherstone this week for my 2nd week at the ATL training centre. I'm pretty sure by mid week once the exam is out of the way, I'll find a pub to fall out of. There's only so much sitting studying in the B&B I can stand, especially as the others staying there will be Plumbing students ;) I've got myself a running route planned out as well, so hopefully the evenings will be a little less mind numbingly boring than last time. :)

I've just discovered the joys of canal cycling.
Did about 15 miles worth by pure chance the other day.
Most of it is flat, so I was well happy with that.

Well guys, the run is on Sunday and I'm fit and ready for it :) I'm just hoping for the weather to be nice! The knee problem has remained a thing of the past thankfully. I can't say my poor Cousin is fairing so well. She has a soft tissue injury to her ankle and suffering as a consequence. She's still determined to see it through to the end though, she's as tough as my Mum!! So far I've raised £324 which is over the minimum required so I'm made up with that. A big thank you to everyone who's sponsored me!! :) If anyone else is willing to sponsor, could I ask you donate to my Cousins page rather than mine as she is yet to hit the minimum sponsorship of £200. The link to her page is: Julie Terry is fundraising for The Stroke Association

If any of you happen to be in sunny Manchester on the day come give us a cheer!!

Weather's looking a bit grim at the moment.
You'll cruise it tomorrow, if you stay off the sauce tonight.
What is your number, I'll keep an eye out for you if I'm anywhere near the course?

It's on Sunday Archie, it's the kids one tomorrow. I've been a good teddy an not touched a drop since my training week. My number is 31863 if you're around there sunday that is. :)

First time I've hit the report button on a mods post! Only kidding Phil :).

Yes Manda please warm up and don't cool down before setting off like I did. It was really really embarrassing do a mile on foot and the other mile in the front of a police van!

Here's the story from last years thread so you don't have to troll through the whole thing. Manda I hope you don't have the same problem I did and I wish you all the best luv.

"That was one if the most embarrassing moments of my life! I'll tell the story before Phil jumps in.

The main marathon runners set off first, all 4200 of them. Ten minutes later we set off, this is now 45mins after the group warm up. I was doing the first 2 or so miles on the relay team event, started off really well at a good pace and keeping up with the fit runners so feeling very pleased with myself.

After 5 mins something went ping in my left leg. I went to the side and stretched it out but still didn't feel right? Continued for another hundred yards and felt my left leg had just turned to wood! Really really bad cramp. I tried to walk it off but no joy. After 5 more mins the police van with his lights on following the last runner pulls up along side me and he asks if I'm ok? "yes, just cramp. Am I the last person now?"

"yes mate, I'm holding up traffic for the race!"

"(Sandra) Bullocks!!!!!

"If you can't continue do you want to jump in and I'll take you to the check point?"

Well I might as well, I would have to hobble the last 3/4 of a mile so I jumped in. What a mistake that was.

Were now following the last runner/walker at 3 miles per hour, both widows open so he can shout at the stupid drivers trying to pass a meat wagon with its lights on with runners on the road. People on the streets gave a supporting round if applause as they passed until they saw me, sat in the front of a cop van with my marathon number across my chest. The look on peoples faces, I received many a slow crap and funny looks as we followed the last runner who looked like she ate way too much chicken and that a flight of stairs would be too much for her, bless.

To top it all off my wife and mother inlaw were waiting near my finish line to take a photo or two. What did they see? Me waving at them in this bloody cop van! Police asked who they were? Told him Si what did he do? Put the full bloody siren on and started to wave at them aswell!

They will never let my forget this.

Turned up at the change over point dead last, people asking if I'm ok and do I need St. Johns first aiders? So embarrassing. I jumped on the bus back to the start point to wait for our team to come in (7th from last BTW) and someone pointed me out in the crowd and said "that's the man that didn't even do the first 2 miles".

Never, never, never again.

Anyway I'm home now with a beer trying to forget the ribbing that I got from the other lads. Oh well I took it all in good humour. Just waiting for the flack I'm going to get from Phil."

Open season on me, take the mick if you want :).

Oh I learnt my lesson not warming up properly at first. Soon made it a priority! I'm still a little silly and don't always cool down as well as I should, but that's what the pint at the end's for isn't it? ;) It should be a great day. My best mate and her Mom are coming to support us, along with my Dad and little Sis, and my Uncle (cousin's Dad) and her brother. I've found out too that a friend who I've not seen for about 14 years is running, so we plan to meet up at the end.
We're not going to be coming in with a great time this year as my Cousin is really suffering with her ankle injury, but we still take part and hopefully do Mom proud. I've no doubt we'll be taking part again next year and hopefully rope a few more in to join us too! :)
I've learnt next time to book the place directly with the run organizers rather than through the Charity. Had we done it that way there would not have been a minimum sponsorship each to raise. As we did it via the charity there's a minimum of £200 each and it's not so easy to guarantee to raise it so we'll be making up the difference. It's a good cause though so what the heck. :)
