I was given a couple of 3 kva site transformers, both have broken bases and all the sand has leaked out, epoxying a new base on is no problem, and I will only be using them myself at home, but what kind of sand should I refill them with ?

Chuck them in the bin and buy a new one, they are very cheap these days, why bother with tatty old carp?

you need sand from Bondi Beach ( Australia ) as upside down sand is the only type of sand that will stop anti-clockwise EMF causing premature escape of the electricity in the secondary, because the secondary is centre tapped to northern hemisphere earth.
