hello every one im looking at doing my 17th edition update exam the courses available seem to be 1 night a week for ten weeks or 3 days both ending in the multi choice exam . both these options seem to cost around 400 to 500 pound . ive seen distant learning packages available where you work through books and mock exam tests in your own time which prepare you for exam . has anyone done this ? can i just book an exam without the course . im apprentice trained to the 16th eddition and ive got my testing inspection . jib approved electrician . thanks

Need to talk to city and guilds direct on that one dont know of anyone that will let you do the test without the course as for the study side ElectaCourse Home Study and Distance Learning Courses and Revision and Exam Aids have a simulator that is basically the exam you take and you can print out the questions and answers to know where you went wrong.

The price you are quoting seems to me to be for the full exam the upgrade should be around £200

Hope that helps

Chris

Just checked ableskills website upgrade course and exam one day £195.00

Hi, it's my first time on this site, but I just wanted to reply to your thred as I have just passed my 17th with about 87% on the pass mark.

I am In my last year doing 2330, I bought a copy of the NICEIC 17th edition training manual.

In it you can read it cover to cover, but I just went to the back of each section where there are questions on the previous section.

A fantastic book and well worth the £ 30.00

I did do the Electra course on line exam but for £ 17.00, the book was much better as a learning guide.

Prospects college in Basildon will let you take just the exam for £ 85.00 + vat with a re test at £ 55.00 + VAT. So I am sure others will let you do the same.

I hope this helps,

Cheers

Dave

Yes I will echo that you can be a home study candidate, but not many colleges like that as they want your money for the course. I will be doing my at a private college in stratford, where the cost is £70.00
