Hi
If you do the Napit Exam which i did you have to do an interim exam on the 17th edition before the exam progresses any further, i have applied for many jobs with agencies been told start Monday then told sorry but you don't have the 17th edition, i try to explain but sorry.

I have no problems taking an exam but as far as i can see if i work through NAPIT i should be covered is it me or are theses agencies against people who better themselves.

Over two years 15 weeks work are people in the same boat

17th Edition is not a legal requirement according to the ECA.

Any advice please

Thanks

Not sure what qualifications you hold, but Napit exams count for nothing in the real world,
Example the Napit2391 which is not an approved qualification, but to them is equal to city guilds 2391 which is a joke and an insult to any one holding the City Guilds 2391.

Wouldnt it be simpler to sit the 2382 and hold a qualification fully recognised by industry?

I think they are all the same you can join NAPIT/NICEIC etc but if you dont have the 17th you are not a full member its conditional membership and the condition is you must get the 2382 within 12 months.

Everyone will ask have you got the 17th to cover themselves as they will look at it how does he know he is working to the 17th if he has not taken and passed the exam.

Hope that helps

Chris

Hi
It would be simpler but without no money coming in how can you do the 17th but from what i understand all governing bodies are bending the rules do the economic situation.

I hold Napit certificate which allows me to certify any job from Domestic, commercial and industrial premises.

Thanks

Although the 17th ed may not be required immediately to join a competant persons scheme, most will expect you to achieve it within 12 months of registering.

With regard to actually seeking employment as a spark, ALL employers will expect you to have the C&G 17th ed as a bare minimum, I dare say the NAPIT version would not be held as an equal.

Not being familiar with the NAPIT quals I cant comment on their standing, to trade under a NAPIT banner as your own boss, they would seem to be ok. To actively seek employment in the idustry I would say not.

You can sit the 17th for about £80, so even if money is tight its a managble sum to pay.
As Lenny said employers will ony acknowledge industry standard qualifications, and the 17th would be a minimum requirement for employment with any firm. Most employers tend to ask for 2382 and 2391 only, which can be accquired for about £200 (providing you can pass the exams of course) you can raise that sort of cash having an ebay day :)
I hold the Napits versions of 2382/2391 also and I guess they pad out my Cv, but I value my City Guilds exams more, qualifications are everything in any role (does it mean your great at your job-no, but it gives employers an indication.( A hospital wouldnt hire a surgeon with a diploma in dr.doolittles home amputations)
I sat 3 years at college a long time ago and have now just started an Nvq3 to be able to compete for Jib work.
Im sure your a decent spark, my advice, bite the bullit, go get the quals that count
