Discuss 17th Edition in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Just been to a NIC seminar on the 17th Edition. Basically its RCDs for all. Concealled cables in walls without mechanical protection will have an RCD. The exemptions wont get you out of jail in a house. It also includes sub-mains, so that should be fun in a block of flats. Also if a cable is under 400mm insulation, it can be derated by half. Rewires are gonna change and nuisanse tripping will either make a mint or cost more.
Test everything. Stay safe. :)

and RCBO's are a rip of

cheapest ones i have seen so far were 17 quid for 61009's

Had to laugh recently talking to a trainee sparks who complained about the cost of replacing 'burnt' MCB's in his mum's CU

"but they are only about 3 quid each" says me

"no, no, the guy in the shop says they dont sell MCB's anymore because of the 17th edition, i had to buy these special ones with a little white lead hanging off it, twenty five quid each they were"

At least his mammy has now got lots of RCBO's in her ten way board......:D
