Good morning,
We have a load of approximately 18.5kw ( compressor skid). There is a plan to install a dedicated socket for this machine, the cable route is yet to be finalised and One of the contractors says 16mm2 cable 100A fuse is adequate but this comes from a rule of thumb as opposed to calculation. Is this a common rule for 63A sockets ?

Thanks

There isnt really a "common rule" it is entirely dependant upon cable length, installation method/route, size & type of protective device, ambient temps etc etc.

Get it designed properly then come back :)

without knowing the length of the run, i'd say 16mm cable on a 63A breaker is closer to the mark. i assume it's 3 phase. that equates to around 30A per phase.

You have to base the supply on the socket outlet because it could be used for any purpose.
