just some info to pass on.(thanks to NICEIC for the info)

Its regarding the 6th April 2013 deadline to apply to the register with just 17th Edition exam pass.
In case anyone was unsure what was required by applicants after the deadline.

Today I messaged NICEIC online chat enquiry with the following and they replied with the latter message.

My Question to NICEIC:

Hi, Im studying for 17th Edition to register as dom installer with you, Im aware there is a deadline of 6th April. What changes / stipulations will be enforced after that date? do you have a link with more info ? once i pass my 17th Edition exam later this month, what other deadlines will i have to meet, like applying? being assessed? registering? pls advise. thanks

NICEIC REPLIED:
Hi, on the 6th of April the requirements change to join a competent persons scheme yes, at the moment the only qualification needed is a 17th edition. As of April you will need an NVQ 3, or a 17th edition and some testing and inspecting courses. If you made an application with us before April then you would be fine even if the assessment wasnt carried out until after April.

They may tinker with the grades of people joining schemes, yet they do NOTHING to police the idiots actually working in the trade, some of which, should have their tools taken away.

yep
and even now the NIC are leaving a get out clause so as not to reduce their income stream
quote their reply ;
"a nvq OR 17th regs and a testing qual what, 2392?"
pathetic.

Excellent news, I'll be able to become an official electrician after April.
But damnation, my bank has blocked any payments to any of these schemes bank accounts. :-(

Surely it doesn't matter anyway? Once that change takes place, so will the others. The most notable being the reduction in notifiable jobs and the introduction of firm 'A' signing of sparky 'B's work. Once that comes into play a large proportion of the DI's will wave goodbye to the scams anyway.

I cant see why domestic installers are hated so much??? if i've done all the necessary training and if my works is safely installed/tested to Part P and BS7671 whats the big deal.

I could become a mini cab driver tomorrow and run a-load of people over, does this mean there should only be black cabs???.

I will admit that doing my 2392 2393 2394 Part P and 17th i still had/have a lot to learn.....but that is what the NIC assessment is for surly, no one who as only done the 17th Ed only will pass that.....the assessment is to make sure your work is compliant with Part P of the building regs and BS7671.

I done my NVQ level 2 a few years back and wasted the first year with health and safety.......HASAWA EAWR "how many vertical beams on a tower 3 meters high" and other mundane useless rubbish.

Surely most fully trained sparks dont bother jobbing in house's anyways, everyone i know who finished collage is now doing industrial thats where im told the money is at.

Anyways rant over dont beat on me too much, there are some domestic installers that take pride in there work and do a good job.

I am going through this process at the moment (been working around electrickery since dear ole dad took me along to pull wires for him some 35 years ago and want to continue LEGALLY on my own and DI suits my needs and confidence levels) and my understanding from NiC is this;

On 6th April the current route to DI ceases; a new 'short' course is available, abou 6 weeks and £7k!!! If you apply to join their scheme before that date then you have 12 months grace to complete your assessment. The MINIMUM they will accept for you to register is the 17th edition. You will still need to prove competence for your assessments which is unlikely if you haven't studied part p and testing.

I also spoke to elecsa today who told me this date had been put on hold, so watch this space...

Well that's the main problem isn't it, You haven't done ALL the necessary training, in fact nowhere near it!!

Come on now, passing a NICEIC, or any other provider assessment is virtually a foregone certainty, you could probably count the number of fails on one hand across the lot them!! It's more of an excuse to collect your £400+!! ...lol!!
