Going to install one heat and two smokedetectors in an existing three bed property.

Consumer unit is old-school Wylexre-wireable fuses. The customer has refused an upgrade.

As I understand it – I could installradio-linked alarms off the existing lighting circuits but what's thesituation with the regs if the lighting circuit isn't RCD protected?

Alternatively I could put in a garageunit and run the two lighting circuits off that but it seems like anunnecessary bodge.

Or I could do the chasing out and have thealarms on a seperate circuit.

it's only cables buried in walls <50mm deep that would need you to fit RCD. if you can get the wiring above ceiling and any drops surface you can just connect into a lighting circuit.

My way would be to wire above ceiling and get up to the landing detector in a cupboard, surface or trunking.

Aico devices and radio links is the way to go - or good old fashioned battery powered non linked devices!!

Radio bases are pretty good, can be a bit pricey tho! Idealy you want them on their own circuit. But pinching the supply of the lights is perfectly acceptable and saves time.At work tenants always call with smoke alarm problems. You get to the job and it's a dead 9v battery for the backup and they can't be arssed to change the battery. Annoying!! Lol

I always use Aico as well, the best in my opinion so easy to install. The best part is when you get to a job to renew the smoke and it's a Aico already there you just unclip and slide the old one off, new one slides in job done in 30 seconds!! Lol :D

get the lithium iron Aico ones too and then the battery's last ages and they recharge there selves
