Discuss Aren't professional photographers great. in the Electricians Chat - Off Topic Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

Me dad has retired now,but was a professional photographer, all his working life. Evening Chronicle,RAF photo recon,Coroners and crime scene, Manchester Evening News...just about took a picture of everything, everywhere, inside and outside the human body :)

Spent hours with him,as a very young kid,"helping" him hand develop and sort pictures, which had to be "runnered" to the editor.

Minolta and Nikon were the favoured tools, and every add-on ever tried...funny now, when he can send a hundred pictures,in colour,to the other side of the world, using his mobile phone....because...

I can just about remember,a clandestine meeting,at me parents house, where me dad,a colleague, and a lad from the pub who worked for the P.O. (BT now) were fiddling with a giant electric box,and practising how to connect it,to a Russian hotel telephone socket.

My father was off to Moscow,on a job for the M.E.N,and this was the only way to send back, grainy,b&w pictures, over a period of hours :)

I also recall how he had to explain to my mother, why he was taking hundreds of condoms,in his main luggage:eek: which were very highly sought after, and he traded for watches, hats and goodies :)

If you have ever noticed old b&w pics,on the wall in older Coronation St,Rovers Return,or seen any of the old Manchester City wins, miners strike,Strangeways riot,IRA bomb damage, and much more...quite likely they were taken by my dad.

If you remember the old Praktia camera , the early ones befor the iron curtain had Leica lenses . I think they were made in Dresden.
One of the lads at a local camera club had one . He turned out some magnificent prints from it.
I used to have an MTL3 was my first "proper"camera.

German engineering at its best, will still be clicking away when I am dust.

Digital photography requires zero skills.
Taking a photo requires zero skill, creating a great image with a camera, digital or not requires skill and ability. There's as much skill in photography now as there ever was.

Yes , David Bailey started it with the Olympus trip.
I'm not sure the Olympus Trip was around when Bailey started out.
He was paid to advertise it, I doubt he ever used one for his professional work, or even used it at all other than when paid by Olympus.

started out with a Zenit E, progressed to Canon AE1P ( still got them), then a Canon A1, Canon EOS film. , then Canon 10D followed by current 40D.

kurt cobain is dead, ozzy's retired, brian johnson has gone deaf. what else is there to get out for?

Started off with Practika, moved on to Minolta, then when digital came along onto Canon. Now using Fuji XT-2 with several lenses, better glass than Canon, but at the end of the day, like cars there are no bad ones, just some suit you more than others. Back to the original point though, 2 million photos? Wouldn't 1 million be enough?

2million. i done a few funerals and never take more than about 80. here's one:
