Hi, I want to restore an old baby belling stove/oven and it worked at first but after about 1min it tripped the power. After that, it trips the power immediately when trying to turn on. The two elements on the stove did this, the grill and even the oven. What is weird is that when I leave it for about a day or two, I can turn it on for about a minute but then trips again and the whole cycle repeats.
Any ideas on what could be causing this?
Thanks

If it is tripping the RCD through earth leakage, this is very common because the heating elements are not sealed. Moisture gets in while the cooker is not in use and disperses throughout the mineral powder insulation. When a damp element is first heated up, the moisture migrates and condenses at the cooler ends, causes an increase in leakage, and trips the RCD. Then if you leave it switched off, the moisture disperses again and the leakage decreases, as you say repeating the cycle.

To drive the moisture out completely, the cooker needs to run from an isolating transformer or leakage-tolerant supply for some hours. Back in the day when many schools had them and RCDs were being installed for the first time, we used to get a lot of calls about it. At the time is was as cheap to replace the elements as to wait for them to dry out but you will probably have to go through the drying process.
