I went to my son in laws house to put a transformer on some bell wiring he had done recently. The bell wire ran from the the door bell to the place that I would place the transformer ( distance about 12 feet) I tested the wire and there was no continuity(used a car continuity test or with light) I even hooked up a temp 18 vac transformer but the reading at the door bell was .321 vac- they used regular 18 gauge bell wire( 3 wires in a sleeve) can anyone explain why this is so I’m completely stumped everything is sheet rocked so I can’t see the bell wire how it is run thank you

TL;DR
Bell wire
No continuity means broken cable.
It’s a pain but it will have to be replaced.

Only other possibilities are incorrect measuring techniques or a faulty meter.

You say the wire is run from the doorbell to the transformer position.

Is there a push button in the circuit?
