Hi Guys,

Just passed my 17th and part p, and would like some advice on below, I'm also going to use this job as one of my assesments for NICEIC

I friend of mine and just had a new kitchen extension done with under floor heating, new down lights and sockets etc. He asked me just to have a look at the electrics as an old boy sparks had helped him with the wiring of his new kitchen. I took a look and all look ok on the wiring side everything appeared to be building regs.

I had a look at the CU which has no RCD's or RCBO’s installed on any circuits. This is now the 3rd extension to the property in the last 10 years.

The board is made up of the following

Hager 12 Way:

7 x 32Amp MT132
5 x 6Amp MT106

Now the house was a single story house, which they have gone into the loft, making it a 2 story, the back of the house was extended in 2005, and they have extended the back again with the new kitchen.

Surly when each extension had been added and new circuits added why would RCD'S or RCBO's not have been installed as a matter of course or even a board change

Obviously I'm going to have to do a test and inspect on the property, before any work is carried out. Because there might be some other issues which need to be taken into account.

What CU would you guys recommend and advise on regarding load splitting.

I was thinking something along the lines of a

17 Way Wylex

3 x 80 Amp 30ma RCD
6 x 32 amp MCB
1 x 32amp RCBO
5 x 16 amp MCB

Subject to inspection

Cheers :)

personnally, i know it costs more, but i woild only use RCBOs, there are many firms that promote (17th boards) but I think it RCBOs all the way.
