Just finished the books for last year. All this filing of recipts and invoices is driving me up the wall. I might just employ someone to do it for me...........

Who do you get to do your books?

books??? what books???

Get an accountant. OK you have to pay his fee but he will recoup it with interest.

When I closed my last business I went ballistic when he gave me a bill for £2,000! Then he gave me the total the tax man owed me £10,000, I was well happy.

Do them myself on a monthly/yearly spreadsheet never get in a tizzy as I do them as I go along cos I dont like sitting with a pile o receipts trying to figure out whats going on.

I do all mine myself too, I just log all the incoming & outgoing invoices plus vat figures on a couple of Excel sheets daily so I don't get a stupid backlog :)

Oh, would either of you like to share those spreadsheets? Give a form, take a form. I've got some to share.

I get a local accountant to do mine, costs me around £1k but it never comes out of my pocket as he manages to get more back for me.

These guys know every little thing you can claim for (even a tax break on office space if you use a room at home to generate customer invoices etc) I just give him a copy of all my invoices, I keep a years worth of receipts in a folder which goes to him and tell him things like mileage, insurance costs etc
