Hi thinking of buying a Megger 1552 and registering, would you buy a secondhand 1552 and get it calibrated if needed or save the money and buy new?

My 1552 is 5 years old now. It's in excellent shape, calibrated every year, but never needed any adjustment. Needed a couple of sets of leads is all.

I'd say, if it's been looked after and is in good clean condition then go for it. If it looks knocked about then, like any piece of kit, it could be fine or knackered.

I say go new.
I just purchased one myself, after looking around for several weeks at second hand meggers, a decent one your looking anything between 450-550, the higher costing ones having some calibration left on them.
I thought there wasnt much point if you had to pay for calibration on top.
I decided to go new, at anything between 600-650, full years calibration and its so shiny and new!!! ;)

I suspect with the new range coming out there may be quite a few bargain 2nd hand ones to be had ...................

It may well turn into a buyers market.

Was thinking that myself, even wholesalers could be dropping prices if you ask nicely!

Depends on your available cash I suppose. My current Fluke 1651 was a bargain £200 2 years ago, secondhand, and had been used twice, I know the lad who bought it new, and it was me that used it the twice. My previous Robin was 3rd hand, and was brilliant for about 5 years. I like to let others pay for the depreciation. But like cars, there are a lot about so be choosy if you but used, and don't but off ebay unless its history is guaranteed and it can be proven not to be stolen. There are a few lads on here who have had their kit nicked by lowlife s*** stains.

Cheers........Howard

My Megger 1552 is great. Calibrated every year, without a problem.
I have just ordered a PAT420 from Megger.
