Morning people,

Went to test an install yesterday after the builders had been in, and found they had gone through 3 of my cables!

'It's ok though, we just switched the RCD back on and it held in!'

Erm no mate, I'll have to dig those cables back out of the wall and crimp them'

'Nah it'll be ok'

'No it. ..kin won't!'.

Maybe wouldn't be so bad, but they did half my chasing for me so they knew exactly where the cables were run. Basically what I'm after is a decent cable detector (for live and dead cables) to reduce the risk of this happening again.

And before you ask about the 50mm chasing depth (of course I went 50 mm ;), they were using 75mm screws to install the kitchen cupboards anyway!

Thanks.

Plumbers are excellent cable locators, they always seem to find them when no one else could.......:wink5:

You are right. A Cat would not actually work in that situation. You want one of the hand held wall scanners. the bosch is excellent. It has electromagnetics and radar so you can pick up both metallic and non metallic services.

Good luck.

my cable detector's rubbish. i realised it didn't really know what it was doing when i ran it over one of the dogs and it started bleeping and flashing.

Lol was it a hand held unit? If you have the bosch unit it would probably pick up bones so it might not be as bad as you think. lol.
