Can anyone recommend a good lamp post key

as the title. Tried cheap ones and a bacho multi type one wich is now broken.

They always break or don’t fit correctly.

It’s the triangular ones mostly that I see.

Yeh do that sometimes, doesn’t always work if it is a little rounded.

A triangle socket adaptor would be good if they existed

Ask one of these lads. They seem to get in most lamp posts

You get them with new lampposts. Buy a new one and get the key for free.


Or perhaps you can order one from a lamppost manufacturer.

Yeah they come taped to the door of the lamp post we did a site of 140 and ended up with a box full of them

I have looked on the tinterweb and you can get triangular socket keys so may give them a try

Realy with all the lamp posts, I've installed have not had free keys with them they sell them at silly prices.

My MIL bought a new pair of scissors from Dyas. It came in a plastic blister pack which you needed a pair of scissors to open

I think they are the same size as a London Underground J Key used by drivers and staff to access trains. I have one somewhere from my days at LUL and they are well made.

All of ours came out of a place called engineering distributors, theirs come with keys taped to the doors and 2 keys for each mini pillar

Never tried this particular one myself but it looks pretty robust for the sum of £3.24 Exc. VAT... at that price it's rude not to buy two.

although its difficult to rip it open with just brute force it is possible, and painful, once you get a good tear in the plastic its like butter

empty out a sharpie, then melt the grey bit with a lighter, pop that onto the triangle, let it cool and twist

Normal triangular keys like you get on meter cupboards do not fit, they are too small. The one in the link will fit, I work on street lighting regularly and as long as I don't lose it, these keys always work.
