Hi,
I want to move the splitter box in my meter box to make room for a smart meter, which looks relatively straightforward. Should I do that myself (homeowner), or does it need a specialist? Is there any requirement regarding its location?
Cheers

I would expect the meter fitters to move it, as the only way to isolate it is by pulling the main fuse, which they will be doing.

So, no… it’s not something you should do yourself.

Ps I have deleted the duplicate post….

Actually, cancel that. Someone else beat me to it

Perhaps not.

All very well being an experienced spark, knowing the risks and carefully removing cover, unscrew from the wall and relocate…..

But the cables here look too short to move anywhere, and a couple of them look very old.

If the supply company insist on you having a smart meter, they can do all the work to make it fit.

You really don’t need to have one, whatever they might say….

Thanks! I want the smart meter; the supplier's engineer did not bother to move the splitter, and there is no room for it otherwise. I guess that leaves me no option but to move it myself.

All of us would advise against that.

Frankly, it’s not safe.

You could ask your supplier to fit a service isolator before the splitter…. You can then get an electrician to move it safely, and replace any cables that are too short. (This is beyond DIY work)
Then supplier can return to fit smart meter.
