what are everybodys thoughts on capping in a domestic 3 bed rewire? do u cap all your work? i dont tend to unless its run diagonal, i mentioned this to someone the other day and the questioned me on it, isnt capping only to protect the cable from the plasterers trowl? everything protected by 30mA RCD, i know what it says in the onsite guide was just wondering what others do??? cheers

i was thinking the same.
although i nearly miss read the title of it thinking i had read an R after the c, which would have been even stranger than a diagonal run :D i best get these glasses changed

if he runs diagonally, best without capping so the plasterer will cut it. the resultant arcing should help the spread dry quicker . lol.

horizontal or vertical my good fellow ,capping just there to protect from the plasterers trowel ,no the capping is there to protect the cable from getting in contact with the cement or plaster as its Acidic and could corrode the cable insulation , oh and i always wear a cap as it keeps the dust off my bauldy patch !

Off the top of my head, the On site Guide suggests running the cables horizontally or vertically from the fitting (light switch, socket or such) or within 150mm from the edge of the wall or ceiling. :)

diag runs need to be 50mm or deeper.
capping or oval tube on all runs regardless.

not sure how you get this far without knowingthis sort of thing?!

or , if a diagonal run has to be made, enclosed in earthed steel conduit
