Just quick one extending cables for new consumer board, gonna crimp extensions were needed now if crimps are inside unit then ok but if outside because customer wants different position then the crimps will have to go in a fixed box and be encased before it hits consumer unit. Thanks Matt

Hi all,

What if cables that need jointing come into the back of the CU from a cavity between house and garage. Can the cables be crimp extended and crimped section be left in wall behind CU?.

Also what heat shrink do you all use! Where are you getting it?.

Thanks in advance.

Yes the cables can be left in the wall after being crimped. Heat shrink can be got from any wholeseller for a few quid.

Even if you crimp using insulated crimps it's always better to heat shrink the whole cable before putting in the wall purely to waterproof it and stop water ingress.

Self amalgamating tape I find is a much better option than heatshrink. Far more watertight too!
