Hi guys,

Wanting to replace single pendant for 5 downlights in dining room, there's no loop in/out at the switch or pendant so I'm guessing there a junction box somewhere for all the lighting on ground floor, i was thinking of taking pendant and using it as the first DL using robus quick fit connectors then linking a cable from the first DL connector to the next DL connector until I get to the last one. Is it ok to do it that way? Thanks.

Junction box likely if no loop at rose or switch.
At a guess, top of the stair on the landing. Lift the carpet there will be a hatch, although not required to access it for this job.

Have you thought about routing cables between downlights? Joists and other obstructions?

No1 advice- don’t make the downlights hole too big!
Practice hole on a scrap price of plasterboard first ;)

g. Lift the carpet there will be a hatch,
their should be some floor baords that might be screwed down or nailed.sme times you find the wetpants have put a c.heating next to the cable or on top .you will need to drill through the joists from one side to tother.good luck .

Thanks buddy, so wire pendant to a jb then from jb to first DL then another cable from first jb to another jb on second DL and so on?

I'm going to overboard and skim the ceiling anyway so doesnt matter how much pepper the existing ceiling, i would drill holes big enough to allow 1.5mmt+e through center of joist, ill get the correct size hole saw for the DL's I'll be using (not got them yet)

Haha, yes I'm sure there will be as there is on in the loft which will be for first floor lighting, it's just finding the bloody bugger, carpet and furniture in every room on first floor ?

Some downlights don’t need separate jointbox, can take 2 cables directly into the LED driver.
Go visit a local electrical wholesaler, they usually have a good selection on show, and cheaper than your local large hardware superstore.
