Cost of new Pump

Hi, My Aunty has been quoted for a new pump and my cousin was there as-well and said what a nice guy he was etc
but they told me he said it might be unto £800 he was going to get a better make etc. But I just got him to post me a picture of the old pump


Now I know I always get good advice here- Now I'm looking I can't see the exact model but nothing is over £400 - He said he was going to get a better make etc and it would cost more etc.

The one she has seems like good quality.I would stick with the same one and it would fit perfectly.

I don't know how long it lasted. I am suspicious. Where she lives all the plumbers eyes seem to light up when they see a little old lady.

But he's saying £800 for the pump alone. Is there even a suitable pump that would cost that much? - my searches are maxing out about £500

Ok I didn't see these posts. I can't fit it, it's not my house. But can anyone tell me is there even a pump that costs £800 etc that's suitable. My cousin hasn't replied and my Aunty doesn't want to make a fuss but I'm not happy.

I think you have answered your own question.No. There aren't any pumps that cost £800.I suggest you tell your relative to find someone else to fit the same model for around the price I said above.

Not clear why you can't fit it. Is it a rented property?

Thanks everyone for your replies - well I'm not happy. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that a little old lady could get a decent plumber and price etc - does it?

You've been given a link to the exact same pump at £321. If access to it is reasonable (unlike mine, which needs an airing cupboard to be emptied and shelves removed), it's ,a job that should take well under an hour, so you should be able to get it done for well under £800.

If all plumbers in the area quite the same ballpark figure, that must be the going rate.

We get the same when pricing jobs, and somebody says they can buy it for half the price and fit it…. You do get what you pay for, however.

As sparks, we are saying it shouldn’t take long to change over, but is that taking into account testing afterwards…. There are jobs we take on where testing takes longer than the job itself.

Best advice, get more quotes. But don’t always go for cheapest.

Hi, thanks for your replies obviously some of you might have missed the first post and I can't fit it over the phone. But from what I understand it is in a tight cupboard but the guy said as I understand £800! For just the pump plus the labour costs etc

Salamander are a reputable brand of pump.

They were but since they "improved" the design they are very poor and tech support has gone downhill and is clearly reading from a computer screen flow chart diagnostic
I had one of their CT50 pumps for 11 - 12 years before it failed and spares for a repair were no longer available replaced it with a CT50+ pump that failed after 11 months and was replaced under warranty now 13 months on and the warranty replacement is starting to fail
When the CT50+ pump first failed I was told by Salamander tech support that despite the CT50 working for many years and the CT50+ was the direct replacement I really needed a negative head pump at 3 times the price
When I stripped the failed CT50+ pump down the fault was the rare earth magnet in the flow switch carrier had completely rotted away on the hot side of the pump only pennies to buy some replacement magnets but Salamander tech support won't accept this is the issue and it is down to the poor improved design not encapsulating flow switch magnet like the previous design

Sadly, the above could apply to almost any brand and any item of modern day consumer products.
