Discuss Does colour appreciation deficiency affect if I can actually do electrical engineering in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I'm colour-blind and interested in electrical engineering. The website I'm using to apply for this course stated that if I had colour appreciation deficiency I have no chance in taking electrical engineering. I would like to know if this is true or not and whether I should still go through with applying or consider another option.

Welcome to the forum.

There was another thread about this subject a while ago - it might be worth doing a search for it. I seem to remember it got a few replies.

You need to be able to distinguish between different wire / cable colours and not just the basic colours.
A lo--ong time ago when I had my first interview there was a practical test to check.

Not all cable work is colour dependant. Some industrial multi cores are all black, with white numbers denoting each core. You can also tie your own numbers to cores, or identify them with tape.

We also test before energising in new work… so any mistakes can be found.

It’s maybe not as much of a problem as it used to be….. but the only ones to know for sure are the ones offering the course.
