Hello all, new poster looking for some help. Our roller shutter keyswitch at work needs replacement, and I'm sick of having to insert key, turn 90 degrees, and wait while the shutter slooooooowwwwly opens. Is there a keyswitch where I can put the key in, turn it once and remove the key, and it will continue to raise the shutter? Bonus points available if it's a Euro style product so I don't need to keep an extra key on my keyring!!

That kind of thing is normally a setting in the controller software, rather than the switch.

This may be a safety thing though.
On a machine of ours there was a pneumatic roller that swung down/up. This was controlled by a lever next to the roller, that was spring-return-to-centre, and manually operated. So someone had to be holding the lever for the roller to move.
This worked on the principle that for someone to be hurt with this roller, the operator had to be intentionally moving the roller while others were near.
This saved on lots of safety equipment.

On a machine of ours there was a pneumatic roller that swung down/up. This was controlled by a lever next to the roller, that was spring-return-to-centre, and manually operated. So someone had to be holding the lever for the roller to move.
This worked on the principle that for someone to be hurt with this roller, the operator had to be intentionally moving the roller while others were near.
This saved on lots of safety equipment.

Yes that's a good point, but in this case the shutter is only used as back up security behind a glass front door, so by the time the shutter's being put down the door would be locked and everyone out the building so wouldn't have thought that feature would be relevant

This is usually done on the door controller by setting the correct dip switch. That is of course assuming it’s new enough to have an electronic controller. it is often called impulse open. Opening the door like this is ok but closing it in this manner requires some sort of safety circuit to stop the door closing if an object or person is under it.

Roller door at my storage place is on a remote button on a key fob rather than a key. With it, opening the door is a single press…. But closing, have to press and hold, as a safety feature.

I’m sure the engineer said it was set up in the controller whether it’s press, or press and hold.

I had a couple of customers with large roller shutter doors. These would open all the way once started, but the knob needed to be held as they shut.
I have a smaller roller shutter (7' x 10') that is operated by a retractive switch from the inside and a single button remote fob from outside. One started, it opens or shuts completely, but if it encounters resistance, it first stops, and then opens slightly.
It has sensors for the fully open and fully closed positions, but I presume it determines an obstruction by monitoring the motor current.
