Is it really that much of a big deal??? What's the chances of getting stopped on a short journey there and back to the MOT?

pretty high if you pass a plod traffic car with a ANPR device fitted (which most do nowadays)

lol yes they do my brother was caught out by a ANPR vehicle the spanner so they took the car he just got a new one cant believe him sometimes lol

IF you are just going to MOT station I would risk it then just go straight to a post office for the tax after take your insurance with you then if stopped show him the insurance and if before its tested tell him you driving it straight for MOT and tax it straight away after

Or as someone else has said ask a local plod

What happened to the good ol days where you might get pulled over once a year and you got a 'producer' which gave you sufficient time to forge whatever documents you needed and get a decent story lined up if necessary?

very helpful tool in tracing vehicles....!

my whole county (durham) has all main roads in and all main roads out covered my ANPR!!!

they were replaced with the MID, DVLA and PNC databases!!! no getting round it now!! if you dont have the insurance / tax etc your car gets recovered at your cost!!

So your telling me the pikeys now all drive Toyota Prius's with tax discs, MOT's and insurance?

unfortunately no...!! but the system has created a situation that the police officer knows for definite if teh driver has any thing to hide before stopping the vehicle and does not have to rely on producers and the like any more!!

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-booked MOT inspection, and also to a place of repair without Tax or MOT certificate.
However, it could be argued on the return journey, that you are driving an unroadworthy vehicle, depending on why it has failed.
Having the MOT failure sheet would be evidence that you were aware that the vehicle was unroadworthy.
Not very likely, unless you are a known toe rag, or you take the wrong attitude with the Police if stopped.
As for asking the local Cop shop, I wouldn't bother.
I once had to produce my documents, and the Copper didn't know about 13 month MOTs.

I think it says on the back of the TAX renewal form you can take it for an MOT.Mine is in a similar situation and I'm taking it for welding before the MOT.

they don't stop the pikeys. it's racial discrimination.

now there you can be done. you are only allowed to drive direct to/from a pre-booked MOT. make sure the place where you are having the welding done is on a direct route to the MOT station and pre book the MOT, even if you don't turn up for it.
