No, in this situation an RCD disconnects the circuit once a person is already receiving an electric shock. A 30mA RCD disconnects the supply before the shock reaches a level that is not normally fatal for a healthy adult.

Lighting Circuits Without A CPC: How To Deal With Them

Elecsa offer their technical support regarding CPC and what to do if a lighting circuit does not have this. Lighting circuits installed before 1966 did not require a circuit protective conductor (cpc)

Might as well just leave everything alone and as it were...

That’s most definitely the sensible thing to do but I’m assuming it’s because A) the current board looks terrible and the fuseboard cover is not in the best condition and B) that in the very rare occasion the fuse blows , my dad has to replace the wire and he can’t be assed with it

Wait till they go on holidays and then chase all the new cables in. By the time they return it will be ready for redecorating
