I'm looking to install a new electric hob in replacement of my gas hob (I would have the gas hob professionally removed). I have an extractor hood and fan that I currently do not use this is hardwired into a socket on the wall, would it be possible to use this to wire up my new electric hob.

Hi Mark - we would need to know what was the new hob and also the size of the circuit breaker that the fan is on. You never know, but it's unlikely sorry.

Hi Mark . The hob needs its own supply back to the fuse board .Get a sparky in to have a look he may be able to find an unused existing supply.

You can get some electric hobs where you can set them to either 13amp, 16 amps, 20amps etc (some of the high end NEFF induction hobs do this)
If your existing oven has its own 32amp supply this may be possible to add the hob to that circuit.

I do believe that my oven is wired into its own 32amp socket the oven I'm looking at says it's 13amp but the hob doesn't give an amps figure (it's a logik lchobtc16 ceramic hob if that helps) would that be safe to use them both on

applying diverssity, i's say it was OK to connect both oven and hob to existing 32A supply. been a rule of thumb for donkeys that 32A supply will handle a total stated max. load of up to 15kW.

Thanks for your help can I ask what is ment by diversity
diversity is making allowance for the fact that all elements will not be on together. i.e. they switch on/off with their thermostats, soeven thogh the full load may be 40A, diversity would bring this down to around 20A -22A.
