I have been asked to quote for installing some emergency lighting in a nursery school, the issue is the CU is already full to bursting with no spare ways. Currently the exixsting lighting is only on an MCB and not covered by an RCD so there would be no nuisiance tripping, so the question is, is it perfectly ok to just hook into the exsisting lighting circuit?

560.9 Directs us to BS 5266

According to BS5266 "[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]The source of supply should be from the same local fuse as the normal lighting, so that in the event of a fuse failure causing the normal lighting to be extinguished, the emergency lighting is brought into operation in the same locality."

You can read the BS here Emergency Lighting Design Guide

Hope that helps
