You state that you don't offer a guarantee for products you haven't supplied. Simples.

you didn`t buy it....so you don`t guarentee it!! full stop!!
you guarentee the work you did...which was to fit the bloody thing, compliance etc...
you didn`t make the accessory, neither did you get it from a reputable source (your chosen wholesalers)..
this is customers trying it on....yet again....

Re: fitting customers ****e

Had a call out last weekend - living room lights keep blowing MCB when turning on.
Turns up and I ask owner any changes any drilling and building work to house (his answer no).

Spent 30 mins checking reading and bits and bobs and I was exhausting my experience.

I thought 1 last thing to try so I pulled light off the ceiling to find it wired incorrectly customer said it had always worked (there is no way in hell it would ever work the way it it was wired)...

On the way out I wanted to spit out my gum so opened the house wheelie bin and there was a box inside for the light that I just wired correctly for him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS I did take the fitting of first but it looked OK as I was only checking connections were made not thinking that some idiot had touched it especially after saying that no changes had taken place.

Re: fitting customers ****e

As already said, you guarantee YOUR WORK, nothing else you haven't supplied. Tell the customer that as it was provided by them, there will be a call-out for any further work undertaken.
This is something you need to make clear whenever fitting equipment you haven't supplied.

Re: fitting customers ****e

As said above I make it clear to the customer that my work is garenteed but parts are not!
If something has packed up a few months/years later after I installed it, I tell the customer that if its the item they will receive another invoice from me!

Re: fitting customers ****e

and tell her the call-out will be charged for before you go. then if she don't want to pay, don't go.

Re: fitting customers ****e

As stated above, as long as you have installed correctly then warranty lies with the manufacturer
