Maestro

I was at a site change over on thursday where 7 portakabins where getting removed to make way for 7 new ones each was supplied by a armour cable 3 core cant rememeber the size

each cabin was supplied from a 32A plug to a plastic isolator on the side of the Cabin where LSF glands(no shroud) where used to terminate into the plastic isolators but no flying earth was taken from the gland via a frying pan/ banjo now i need to go back and reconnect up the 7 new cabins i was wondering should i put flying earths on them or not

Isn't the armouring classed as an exposed conductive part whether or not there is a shroud covering the termination, so as such it has to be earthed, I'm sure I've read that somewhere.

Glad I didn't jack in with the forums looks like some good manly debates are emerging over the last 24 hours :45:

You were going to leave this forum?

You should have started a thread about that, we could have helped persuade you to stay then.

That was a joke by the way.

Dillb I will presume you are joking as I did start a thread and I am glad to say some very nice members persuaded me too stay

FFS man, we don't all carry the regs with us 24/7. There's always situations where we scratch our heads a bit, unless of course we're electrical gods

Now now Trev.
I think Pauls point is that we carry out regulation grade works on a daily basis and know from experience and as Tony said, common sense, what is correct.
In this instance the armour needs earthed and it is stupid to ask if required.
But ask me a reg number and I couldnt say without looking at the book. And wouldnt do somebody elses donkey work.

Boydy

I know, without even reading through the thread this is a somewhat dig at me...

I didn't ask if it need's eathing, and i clearly stated i always do. I asked whether there was a set-in-stone regulation that decides this, as i was unsure - without checking.

As for the fact you wouldn't do someone elses donkey work...i wouldn't expect you too look it up for me, but if you knew it, i'd expect you to share it to be helpful. Now, also with this point ... does that mean you wont be advising anyone else on the forum, because essentially that comes under 'the donkey work' term....

I mean i've just seen a thread within the last hour, where netblindpaul has advised someone where to get MCB'S ... but yet he wont state whether or not he knows of the regulation required for armouring of cpc. In my book, the advising of the MCB is more donkey-work than the regulation, google just been literally a click away.

Mark.

sorry 1 of the 3 core i being used an earth i would almost definitely say the plug end has not been terminated into a gland i thought at least 1 end had to be to earth even if the sheath is not used as the main earth hence the question just looking for conformation

1 end goes into a 32A plug and the other end is glanded into a plastic isolator(i just took of the isolator when disconeccting the cabins) it was just no frying pans where used on the terminating of the gland

Armoured cable terminated into a commando plug ???????

oh dear oh dear when will they learn.

Now you are wrong there, I can't remember regulations, so I look them up, I actually had the RS website open when I posted in that thread, as I was sorting materials, so, to find out if they supplied KM MCB's was seconds.
I did not have to fire up the Regs app, or go and get my regs book, then look through it to find the reg.
Also you know what, I'm still not going to.

I don't CARE what you think, and to be honest, I don't really care what the rest of the members of this forum think of my behaviour.
I know why I answered in the way I did, and that suits me just fine, if you don't like it don't read my posts, simple.

Why you bringing this back up then?
