scenario is i have a consumer unit at one end of the house, and at the other end (20m away going the route i'm taking which is around the outside of the house) is the water stop cock and 200mm away from that is the incoming gas. so i was planning on using 1 x 10mm to save on cable, i thought this was ok and within the regs as long as it's one continuous cable, but today somebody sewed a seed of doubt in my mind. i'd go to the van and look through the regs but i'm sat n the dark here keeping out the way of the trick or treaters and don't want to break cover!

as long as it goes to the first clamp wraps around that and off to the next uncut then no issues. if any clamp/ joint was to become unstable then at least the other service was still bonded

Yes providing the cable is one continuous piece then one length can be used for both earths,as others have said just remove insulation and wrap around terminal at first clamp then carry on to the next.

i agree with all the posts
but-- i don,t understand the reason why one cant wire the 10 mm earthing cable to the first clamp then crimp the correct size lug onto it
then crimp another onto the on-going
thus there will be 2 lugs attached to the first clamp?

Agreed as above to a certain point
what I would do though is; take the sheath off the cable where at your 1st clamp, then poke a screwdriver through the strands of the cable and put the bolt (off the clamp) through this, then continue onto your 2nd clamp
personally I think this is better than wrapping around the bolt, - less chance of coming off
