Guys,

went and saw a customer today to look at putting in power for a new shower unit this is what I found. Looks like a 3 phase supply into the house. Single phase is only being suppliered to board but should the main switch be changed by LEB it is also mounted onto a steel plate as well is the board. It also looks like its fuse wire instead of a main HRC fuse. Was going to recommend to change the board to dual rcd 17th edition board. thanks for all your help. Let me know your thoughts

I would change the CU mate to comply with with 17th ed.Don't see a problem with the incoming supply. If you have an issue with this i'd speak to the DNO.Looks like the tails will need changing too. What's the size of the main fuse?

Distribution Network Organisation. The electric company that supplies the electricity to the property.Hope this helps.Cheers Paul

Indeed, years ago the neutral used to be fused as well, but then they realised the error of their ways and removed the fuse and replaced with a link.

no problem with that incomer except it will contain asbestos and the fuse wire will be 3036 equivalent. the DNO tends to replace those when they hear about them/ have to do any work near it. agree that the CU should be upgraded to 17th edition, any work is going to want it done anyway, the main earth will also be 6mm, max size that those old boards take is 10mm which is still less than the 16mm recommendation anyway, rambling now so will go.

You have 2 situations here 1 is consumer unit change 2 is DNO needs to upgrade their equipment so change the DB highlight and inform DNO to upgrade equipment
also upgrade your main earth to 16mm and leave a bit spare on it and when DNO does upgrade return to upgrade DI to 25mm or if the customer gives them a cup of tea and a bacon roll they might just do it for you. Remember to inform the customer that there may be a cost for this

PS thanks for adding the photos as it makes our job a whole lot better

I would say that job is well completed as the original post was made over 18 months ago.
