So I had a ceiling repair done in my bathroom due to water damage. The neighbors toilet above me was leaking for who knows how long.
Mold between the two layers of ceiling drywall, moldy wet insulation which caused some soft webbing between chords/flanges. Handy man company sistered it by just placing 2 x 4 at the top of one chord on one side due to pipes; they said that was the best option. I thought they could have sistered with 3/8” chipboard on the web and then 3/4” plywood on top of that.
But there is another problem I want to mention. I had them install a new bathroom fan that also has a light and nightlight so they needed to run two new lines to the switch and I am having them change out one switch with a stacked three combo switch. They could not just pull two new lines using the exiting line as it was staples to the studs so they had to cut into the drywall above the switch and at the top of the wall at ceiling height.
After they left I was checking out how they added flex duct from the fan to the existing vent as we debated on that. I didn’t like that they didn’t expand the flex duct completely and just cut off the excess so I went ahead and took off all the foil tape and redid that tonight. I was afraid that moisture would get into the compressed folds and cause mold to build up.
When I was doing that I was looking at how they fed the new lines in and there was a joist right up against the wall above the switch, so they drilled through the webbing right above the chord with no gap and looked like they could not get the lines through so then they drilled a 1 1/2” L x 1” H hole in the chord right below the web hole. I thought are you kidding me. They just “somewhat” sistered the TJI next to this TJI and then they compromised this one.
How can I even recover from this?
I tried to attach photos but says they are too large for server to process.
