Hi all,

I've just moved house, and have found that the new place has a more traditional thermostat than my previous Hive setup.

I'm aiming to replace the existing Potterton Mini Minder E and British Gas RS1 for a Google Nest Thermostat.

I'm in the 'plan and investigate' phase of thinking about this. Casting the question out there, is this a complex job? I'm researching if I'd have to remove both of the old parts, I suspect I would, to get the Nest in and working.

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best approach here?

Thanks!

Functionally, the Nest is a single pole switch. The existing stat is also a dingle pole switch.

Therefore, if you have a basic understanding of how the new and old systems are connected, then changing from one to the other should be a reasonably simple job.

There are a few gotchas in the process though. Post pics of the existing stat wiring and the Nest if you aren’t certain.

What type of boiler and heating system do you have?

TBH it would be just quicker and easier to pay a local NEST installer to do the work, removes all risk and provides you with a warranty. It only takes putting 230 volts onto one of the low voltage contacts to destroy the heat link controller.
