How many electricians do data cabling?

Hi

As you may know I'm a data cable installer and IT Installation Specialist, I was wondering how many of you electricians install data cables yourself and how many get a specialist cabler?

If you install data cabling do you do the IT Installation too or do you leave this for the client to organise?

This is just a freindly question as i'm curious as to what the majority do..

When i worked for a commerical firm we used to do alot of data cableing, we used connectix stuff, i enjoyed it. It was council work so we just put the cables in and connected them to the rj45 points and to the patch panel and left the patching the the clever IT guys.

hiya, in the company I work for, we just do the cabling and the rj45 sockets, just basically what markthespark has just said. I dont think anyone in our team can do the actual networking IT installation. On the other hand I did networking at college for 3 years, + everything I did at home, because I were r8 into computers then, but that phase has gone. I've got a good understanding of it, but I'm not mentioning it to the boss, because I don't want to do it anymore, no patience for it.

Do you do everything leoh, from laying the cables to setting up the network? how do you find it, as well do you do cctv and alarms etc???

I thought this might be the case!
We do, do everything from installing the cables to the IT setup. We also do CCTV (mainly IP CCTV), but don't really do alarms, although I have in the past.
However for large installations, we tend to subcontract the cable laying to someone else and just concentrate on the IT side.

The moneys alright, but i'm by no means loaded YET

HI Chaps just thought i would bump this thread up, I do custom audio and video installs (not PA systems) for domestic and commercial clients, mainly meeting rooms with projectors interactive white boards etc and full home cinema and multi-room audio video systems which can include integrated lighting (digital dimming) control and HVAC control just wondered if something you ever get asked to do? And what you do about it when you do?

Done a bit of CCTV work and some access control work as well, thats data stuff

worked on industrial BUS systems as well, ProfiBus, AsiBus that sort of thing. Done a bit with CanBus systems on really large plant systems as well.

dont matter what it is, as long as you put a 120 ohm resistor at either end!

never done any industrial control PLC's etc some cool stuff but not what i do. You guys ever used Cbus?
