I'm going back into the educational system for Fire Alarms. Over these passed 3 years I've found myself installing more and more of them for other companies, just pulling in cables and terminating them, not designing or commissioning/testing them.

It is a section of our industry that I am very interested in so I've made the decision to go for another qualification. I'm in a really really good position at this moment subbying for a firm that install FA's, I'm the head spark on a small(ish) call center rewire that now needs a new design and installation of a new system. This is the perfect time to have a go with expert backing from the company owner willing to teach me the things I do not know or fully understand. This is a bit like you lot in the Trainee Section????

I'm hitting the books and the posts by Mod/Mentor Tazz before taking on this task, this is a real world install via my design and it needs to be perfect so it saves lives and property as it should.

So I'm in the same boat as the T/S members and I'm a Trainee again!!!! I think a few of you are already in this industry, if any one can help me along my way to becoming an IFA qualified FA engineer, please post up and I'll pick your brains for a change LOL. I'll keep you all posted on my first design and testing of a FA system, well this is the best part of the forum to ask daft questions (and there will be a few from me lol).

Looking forward to the challenge and posting back in here my progress, gives us all some thing to talk about.

PS Thank you Tazz for your support, means a lot to me.

Tazz is a top man and really knows his stuff. Thankfully he has offered his help, who better then to guide you through this subject, he is now my Mentor whilst we are Mentors to others. I'm a trainee again pmsl

A very good qual to have, this is part of my life long plan. Dont what to be on the tools in my 60's (aiming for 50's but we will see what happens?)

Tel you have just reminded me of my first time on a FA annual test. Please feel free to take the Mick out of me for this one.....

Working for another spark years ago and I was sent to do the "smoke in a can" test. Everything tested fine until one did not not set off the alarm???? I tried for 5 minuets to get the censor to work but to no avail. Then I realized that I was stood in the kitchen plowing smoke into a heat detector DOH
