Just been looking through the local paper there's a full page advert from John Lewis their now got electricians, plumbers, painters, gardeners, carpenters and plasterers what do members know about it?

The way the article describes it is they are using already registered NIC scam sparks, so tjey will be using that brand to advertise them with.
Maybe, but I have not seen anything to suggest they are. It is unfair on those electricians that are in other schemes or not in a scheme. As my first post asks if anyone is doing work for them but yet no one has posted yet who is.

Who are these other schemes you speak of?.......I thought their was only 1 :D

I will post this again just to show they are using the scams logo for their benefit.

As we don't have Part P here we have none of the schemes England/Wales have. We have JIB, ECA, and NIC EIC AC I think.

We had the issue a few years ago when B&Q teamed up with Napit for their Kitchen installs - Napit had no presence here and offered no benefit to anyone. I think Napit set up a small office here, but whilst I do a lot of Electrical Work in Kitchens I have no intention of doing one for B&Q and want the extortionate rate they charge customers

If that's the case
Can't really be any plainer Ant can it? no offence meant, I hope none taken.
None taken Pete, I had only seen the full page advert in the Chronical & Echo this week.I wish Dillb had posted this sooner as there would of been more fact behind what he was implying. This is the thing that annoys me regarding the NICEIC they are now all about the money and not electrical standards
It is totally unfair that if correct you have to be a member of their scheme to be able to work for John Lewis I do hope the schemes are not going down the route of joining our scheme you can work for these or join NAPIT you can work for B & Q --- etc

As far as I am aware John Lewis sub contract to local tradesmen to complete installations of their products in the same way as many other companies. The situation they seem to have in place now is effectively that they are using the NICEIC as a check on the electricians they are using to do the jobs.
Reading between the lines it would seem to be most likely that the:
12-Month Guarantee on all workmanship (Part P compliance presumably)
Vetted by specialist John Lewis Partners (the NICEIC)
Previous work personally inspected (by registering with the NICEIC?)

means that effectively they only use NICEIC registered electricians to do the work as I cannot see the NICEIC bothering to do an assessment of a Stroma registered electrician just for fun.
A sad and disappointing business decision by John Lewis who are probably unaware of what this actually means.

It could be that J.L approached all the Schemes and trade bodies but only Nic responded with a fully comprehensive 1 stop solution. (for a reasonable fee of course)

I'm not really sure why J.L think this is a good idea, they are only likely to get crap from customers (and high spending ones at that) when it doesn't go thier (the customers) way.

They are more than likely being conned by some non person, as the likes of JL's management, will have very little, if any, notion of what they are signing up for, the haves and the have not's working together to cause utter confusion, another cash cow for the NICEIC, bet they are rubbing their grubby hands together thinking of all the uninitiated they are about to fleece, even more pound coins into their coffers.

I wonder if the NICEIC will be charging their members an administrative fee to join the list?

Yes, Pete, both J.L. and NICEIC will be making a bit on each job.

Just a bit of info for anyone working for B & poo as a kitchen installer or working for a installer they will stop doing installations in July, so there will be a lot of installers looking for work.
