Hello everyone.

Kenmore undercounter freezer - Model KIF60W4

After smelling something funky, I inspected behind my freezer and discovered rust and signs of a leak above the compressor. I've attached some photos.

To me it looks like a serious fault and I'm swaying towards binning the freezer rather than fixing it.

Does anyone have any feedback on what might be the issue?

Thanks in advance!

Adam

The only source of water in a freezer is from ice melting inside of it. Looks like there's a leak through the inside skin, into the insulation, which has now corroded its way through the panel above the compressor.
In a self defrosting fridge, the melt water is deliberately channelled to drip onto the compressor, but into a dish fixed to the top of it. The heat from the compressor evaporates the water into the air. Crude, but it works.
