when putting in a wall mounted fan in kitchen does it have to be 5in? or is 4in ok? for say rewire? and new build? I am pretty sure 4in is fine in wc/bathroom/utility etc- but not 100pc sure with kitchen?

For new build you would refer to the minimum permissable extract rates for room types in the building regs. This acts a good guide for any fan install, or you could work out the required rate from room size.
