upgrade to a 1940s ish installation mains busbar due to soldered joints failing on busbar isolator, 20 ish switched fuses of the same age on it. Large installation(hotel) that never closes and has alot of c1s on existing out of date certs but they want the mains upgrading 1st before the rest of the installation is dealt with... How would you go about reenergising knowing there is alot of non compliances throughout the installation. Would you be certifying and noting exclusions from regs and noting what you have done. At the end of the day you are improving the installation and the client is agrewing to get through all requirwd works in due course. Ive wrote enouvh for now lol

Only one i have of before. Uploaded this a while ago. The switch fuse on the right welded shut due to soldered joint arcing etc. Bang. Installed the new 400 Amp in front to eventually install i line to replace as images.

If there's any of that original Simplex gear left intact, it might be of interest for the museum. Twice I've tried to save a set of SF's for a Simplex display and they've all been smashed or skipped.

As for your question on C1's. I think they need rectifying first.

Obviously the C1's may not be C1's, as many sparks are trigger happy with the number 1 over the number 2 on an EICR.

C2's on the other hand, I would go ahead and do the distribution changes first. As I have quoted in other posts You are improving the installation and doing what your doing won't make the installation less safe than before. Just document on a risk assessment and get hotel to sign there understanding.

Pretty much how its gone to be fair.

How did they manage to carry on as normal with a number of unresolved 'C1's on the last EICR, I'd have thought they should have been dealt with very quickly ?

I suppose the client is in charge of what they do in terms of remedials. The person who carried out the report can only advise. Also can be difficult rectifying c1s and c2s in a fully functioning hotel without disruption. The changeovers of each circuit have been smooth to be fair but still get guests complaining. The final changeovers have yet to be done and are the circuits directly connected to the busbar which will require full shutdown.
