Hello all,

strange callout today, 12 LEDs on a lighting circuit had either stopped working or were flickering. Another 8 on the circuit were working fine. Took all bulbs out and tested on a fitting I temporarily wired up and all 12 bulbs are at fault, any ideas what may have caused 12 LED bulbs to all go at the same time?

Cheers,
gavin

How old are the lamps? How many hours per day are they running? What's their rated lifespan? Did they all go faulty exactly at the same time or maybe over a period of days/weeks/months?

Are the fittings LV or ELV

Fittings are 230v, all went at the same time, they've been working for 3 months no problem with very occasional use as they are in an indoor pool which is still being built. Installation was only 3 months ago so practically brand new lamps other than maybe the 9-10 hours they've been run in those 3 months

Last question...I promise. Are they on dimmers and have any other electronic items or lamps elsewhere in the house failed at the same time? Damn, that was two questions, good job my fingers were crossed :)

There all wired via a rather extensive niko home automation system, the entire house (which is more mansion than house) is filled with LED Spotlights and nothing else has stopped working. (Apart from one little deck light going down the steps into the pool, but this is due to the tiler being too handy with his trowel ;) haha

Wow, glad you mentioned that in passing although it might have been worthy of a mention in the opening post. Did you install the automation system?

Next question. Make and model number of home automation system and make and model number of the LED lamps please.

Sorry forgot that bit, it's been a long day! Haha I will have to get model numbers tomorrow as left site now, no I didn't install the system, I'm doing the finishing off and tidying up at the end so too speak. There have been a number of people involved with the project from the start as it's been built up over a period of years.

How does the automation system control the lights? Does it have built-in switches and dimmers or does it just control a switch/dimmer that's installed in the room?
I'd be investigating if the LED lamps are compatible with the automation system.

Sounds silly but they are using drivers and not Lv transformers. I see a sparks wiring LEDs with transformers and not drivers. He didn't realise that transformers put out AC and drivers DC. This will eventually knacker the LEDs.
