A method statement is a method statement, it is just a statement to say how you are going to do the job in a written form, from which if you bring any hazards up the you may need to do a risk assesment as well.

As I pointed out to ouyr H & S guy when doing an IOSH course you may not have to do a written risk assesment if you employ less than 5 people but if you are doing a job for some companies you are asked to provide them along with a method statement, if not you don't do the job.

if you do a few risk assesments and method statements, it might be worth buying Electrical Contractors Office (ECO) we paid about £90 and it's been worth its weight in gold just for the risk assesment section it has. Simply tick the risks that are assiociated with the job in hand and it automaticvally prints off the risk assesment and method statement. We've used it a few times, and you can edit them to suit your needs.
