Bit of a boring question here but nonetheless it is a concern of mine at the moment. We have a Sharp 800w microwave that is quite new. It gets very little use and today I noticed that despite it not being used, the top it quite warm to the touch. Can anyone provide some insight or advice?

Either the wife's having secret snacks or it's just the heat coming off any transformers or electronics that run in the background, nothing is truly off unless you unplug it.

Some leave the light on with the door open ,(more noticable at night !)
Does the sun shin in the window.
( as Darkwood mentions -unplug for comparison)
Also is it a posh one with a "Grill Element " in it , that may have been used.!

Thank you for your replies. It would seem as though we have gotten to the bottom of it. If the timer still has time left on it, it would radiate heat while not on, but if the timer is cleared once we are finished, it does not.

Sounds similar to my sons habit. , leaves door open.
(An incandescent bulb -does get pretty warm if left on for a few hours)
.. Instructions say never put things on top ..obviously for ventilation
and heat build up reasons..

@Harry0507 Thank you for for sharing your discovery !
