mk grid

went into a house today to change some spots in the kitchen, anyway on the wall there was a 8gang mk grid switch system, can anybody explain to me how you would wire up such a thing for sockets under the kitchen units etc

hi mate if its the grid system i think you mean then ive always took a ring main to the grid and looped the lives and neutrals through all the double pole grid switches finishing on the return leg of the ring main (hope that makes sense!)

then you just connect which ever appliance socket outlet to each respective "load" output of the switches, if you have things like fans or other low current accesorries then they will be fused down by a fused grid switch prior to going though a seperate grid sw (depends on certain factors like if fan has pull cord switch for example)

also to add to the above, if you wanted and you had space in the consumer unit you could always take seperate radial feeds for each appliance from cons unit too each respective grid switch then on to the appliace (this method is how a company in louth preffered to do it, which ever method you use you gotta think about the ammount of wire you have behind the grid, can be an arse to get it all to push back without giving poo ins res readings.

so im taking that the dp switch has a load and supply like a fuse spur, so you run a 2.5 down from the load side to a socket for a washing machine for example?

so the socket can be 1g or 2g? i can imagine all them wires would be murder to get nice and tidy

yeah you gotta load and supply side on em.

ive only ever ran the outlet side to a 1g outlet as i suppose theres a risk of overload going too a 2g skt. i.e potential of 26big ones down a 2.5

yeah there a total pig to 2nd fix, 12 ways are a bit easier with having a bit more room to work in. look the part tho

yeah totally, just gotta take ya time with them n itll be cool, just make sure the wires get labelled up well at 1st fix stage.

i found it helpful to pre bend and bear off some brown and blue loops (mains side)(like when you take a feed to another terminal on a light sw), then you can just screw them straight into the terminals and crack on with the load sides etc.

yeah sounds like a good idear that i surpose its like anything the more you do the better you get.
